Celebrating 2019

My blog post should read “Celebrating 2018” because throughout the year I felt that there were so many things to celebrate and that I needed to write about them on my blog to share with my friends and colleagues, but I took the easy way out by sharing most of the events as they unfolded on Facebook and some on Instagram and Twitter, but the stories never materialized to the level I wanted since there was so much more to tell rather than just the snippets of information along with a few photos that is normal, and while the social media appearance was ever present, the real stories were not written.

Then on March 25, 2018 our world was shattered with the brutal murder of my brother Mario and that is another story. To add to this situation and while still in shock, my uncle Hipolito Vera also died a few days later so in one week I had to attend his funeral as well.

Thus while I had so many stories to share, the year went by and the stories were never told. We are now in 2019 and I feel that my stories must be told. To start off here is a peek into the stories that I had in mind and I do plan to share them in 2019. They include the following:

  1. 2018 was a special year because I reached 3 score and ten (70 Years) which for me was a year of reflection. Lots to reflect on.
  2. 2018 was a year for many anniversaries, which in essence are all a summary of journeys. Some of these are:
  • 20 years since I moved to Mile 20, Rockville on the Western Highway, now George Price Highway,
  • 25 years since the construction of the Belize Institute of Management (BIM) building, and many others.
  • 25 years since I left BTL which was one of my longest serving job

One of the main decisions I had to make as a part of the process was to reduce my presence on Facebook, which was not too hard to do as I had already recognized that there was some level of Dopamine that had penetrated my system, which drove the desire to engage in social media more that what would be considered normal. However even though I felt the desire, I still consoled myself as I watched the level of engagement of others that it kept reminding me that mine was not too bad. In fact it reminded me of the time that I smoked cigarettes and consoled myself as not having a habit as I only smoked when I took a spirited drink, but again that’s another story. In order to start the weaning process, I decided not to write any post on Facebook except to my RGConsulting page starting in January, and which to date Jan 26, I have maintained my absence except for some likes and comments.

So this is the beginning of my new journey, my attempt at writing once again on my blog, my attempt to share my stories, and with time I hope to take it to another level i.e. vblog, etc.

Feel free to join me on this journey and make your contribution as we go along. A Happy New Year to you too.
