Change Happens. Opportunities and Threats.

On the 27th of December 2014, a number of workmen appeared on the property next to mine, and in discussion with the gentleman who said he is the contractor, I was advised that the property next door was bought by a Chinese business man and that a major factory will be constructed just around the curve from the bar next door known as “Stress Free Paradise”. He advised me that they were on site doing soil borings to determine the length of piles that the building would require.

Today I observed lots of activities and I thought that after close to 17 years of living off the highway in Gracie Rock, I considered that I had built my own piece of Shangri-La, surrounded by ponds, canals, lots of wildlife, and many fruit trees, and in addition to add to my my peace and tranquility my nearest neighbors on the way to Belize city were about a half mile away, and towards Belmopan about 1 mile away, with no neighbors towards the south and north of my property. However on the positive side I foresee major job opportunities  during the construction phase as well as additional job opportunities once the factory is in operation.

Change happens, and we must focus on the positive and prepare proactively for the impact that this will have for Belize and the businesses to be affected. While the contractor informed me of the type of business that will be built, I cannot disclose it as I have not verified the information. I can say that if what he said is true, they will be moving the cheese of one of the largest manufacturers in Belize.
