In any business venture there is risk, and while one makes the necessary effort to mitigate those risks, the constant attacks from every possible angle become tiresome and discouraging, however being presently involved directly in some agricultural ventures they can be overwhelming. Some of the threats encountered are listed below in summary form, further details are provided in individual blogs. This blog does not cover Financial, Technological, Marketing, Operational, Environmental and other Security risks although at the macro level these have to be considered.
1. Climatic Conditions:
- Rain: Rain gives life to all living things on Earth, we cannot live without water however too little (drought) and too much (floods) are damaging to all.
- Sun: The Sun also gives life to all living things on Earth, and we cannot live without the Sun, however too much Sun dries up the Earth while too little brings cold and freezing temperatures.
- Wind: The wind helps to cool the Earth but too much wind (hurricanes) can cause extensive damage, and too little makes the heat unbearable.
2. Predators: Insects, Reptiles, birds, mammals (four legged and two legged).
- Insects: There are insects that are great for the crops and those that are not.
- Reptiles: While some reptiles help control the insect population, they do their fair share of damage.
- Birds: Birds are beautiful to observe especially when bird-watching, but when they prey on your crops, the outlook changes.
- Mammals: There are four legged versions and the two legged ones. The two legged ones are the most dangerous.
